This weekend kicks off Modernism’s Fall Preview, the unofficial start of the desert season, with dozens of events inspired by the Mid Century architecture and lifestyle of Palm Springs. With hundreds of Modernists descending on Palm Springs a new festival is making its debut just in time. The Vintage Vibe Festival is a 3-day celebration of all things vintage, which is defined by the organizers as pre-1999. Festival-goers can expect a variety of events including a vintage marketplace at the Palm Springs Convention Center, concerts, and a kickoff pool party Thursday evening.
The Palm Springs Convention Center will be transformed into a vintage dream with vendors from all over California, a haircut & shave salon, pinup photoshoots, and a Sunday book signing by 60s it girl, Donna Loren. Donna’s book, “Pop Sixties: Shindig!, Dick Clark, Beach Party, and Photographs from the Donna Loren Archive” is a journey through photos of her time on Dick Clark, Shindig, and Beach Party. The marketplace is the perfect spot to grab a few unique Mid Century pieces for your home, cool coffee table books, 1940s art, or some fabulous vintage clothing from any decade. A variety of concerts will be offered (and tickets are required) throughout the day from bands like Nick Waterhouse, The Cactus Blossoms, Best Coast, and The Junglecats.
The weekend will also offer a vintage arcade, free Swing Dance lessons at the marketplace, yard game tournaments for ping pong, jenga, and corn hole, plus the kick off pool party at The Saguaro Hotel on Thursday evening with the band, The Flux Capacitors.
Tickets are still available for the full weekend or specific events on the Vintage Vibe Fest website.
